haiti fundraiser 4

a place of bounty
abounding in abundance,
a place where all have access to sustenance,
a place where prosperity is achieved with temerity,
and a better tomorrow is there with no clarity,
there i see
a new haiti
in the not so distant future,
but only if the love the need sutured
is delivered with speed,
they need us now,
will you make a vow
to do something to help out,
to reach inside and then reach out
to a nation on its knees about
to be drowned by hurricane season?
they've not yet dug out,
please help them out,
you've got reasons, motivations,
and you're in the situation
where you may not be able to actually be there,
but because you care
you can make them feel you,
thank you those of you
who have widened your world view
and embraced haiti without haste,
it is important that people
regardless of race,
class,
shape of face,
grasp this very place
in time to define the shine they'll leave behind,
our teachings and tales define
the life line of those next in line,
what world they find
when they come of age
is being set up as we write this page
of history, listen to me,
we gotta heal each other,
help each other,
touch each other,
embrace those that need you,
go out in the world
and brighten someone's view

haiti fundraiser 3

you already forgot about haiti,
don't front,
you let it slip from your mind,
the thought was a runt,
caught up in the daily grind
it disappeared like coins in couch cushions,
you fell back to the comforting illusions of life,
and conclusions that it's alright
cuz it's out of sight
despite the fact that the desperation's not tracked
by our nightly news, i advise you
to never confuse activity for achievement,
the depths of bereavement are not absent,
cries of hunger and loss are not silent,
violence is being done to everyone
of the daughters and sons
living out of shanty homes dropped to rubble,
now in tent cities they huddle humbled,
clearly their place in the world is not muddled or subtle,
they know as world focus goes
so to goes their chances to get up and go,
to genuinely overthrow the clutches of poverty,
currently holding 80% of their populace,
craving to crawl out of destruction
and live out a life free of mud cake eating sustenance hypocrisy,
just how far this goes we have yet to see,
but we're here, so in some part
we're carrying a torch for humanity

haiti fundraiser 2

the sky is falling,
death is calling,
as weather is drawing
a chalk line around an island of impoverished,
but we,
the international community
can do something,
one thing
is better than no thing,
we can bring awareness
to the careless casualness
of lives untouched by destruction all around us,
we can donate and discuss,
we can make a fuss with those who represent us,
we can thrust
ourselves directly into the fight
to save a nation from the dying of its light,
we must rage against silence, that is our fight,
to not let these people slip into the night,
if it was us in their shoes we'd hope and we'd pray
for help to rebuild and a way to pay
back the assistance once laid at our feet,
don't ignore how this plays if the shoes switched feet
and we walked a mile with our nation in piles
of debris every where the eye could see,
misery for our elders, babies, you and me,
we can be who we would pray for,
we may not be saviors
but we can't walk away
without trying to help them survive one more day,
it matters not what deity to whom you pray,
or if you believe in that sort of thing anyway,
it matters not if you're red, green, blue, or gray,
your party affiliation holds no bit of sway,
what matters is what you do with your today,
how you help your fellow man,
how you did display your compassion,
for some it lights the way to brighter days

haiti fundraiser 1

right now it's late in a land far away,
the livestock are sleeping after a long day,
the fields are all flooded,
so are the homes,
at least those still standing, most are piled like bones
of the dead who didn't make it past the thunderous quake,
so i ask that you give, help the haitians to take
back a little bit of life, in this moment where strife,
death and destruction litter everything in sight in the dark of night,
little girls are getting raped, vigilantes rove and take
from whoever they can, a quick scan shows mouth to hand
sustenance, united nations and haitian cops are observing this
from a distance,
you can be sure hurricanes wont miss hispanola as their season hits,
the lives of 1.3 million people displaced, 230,000 lost lives interlace
with your soul right here in this moment, in this very place,
with our intentions
we shall reshape the fates
